The PRINT® Profile Motivational Assessment

I am a PRINT® certified coach, and I use the PRINT® Motivational Profile assessment to help individuals and teams improve self-awareness and gain valuable insights about how they manage their own behaviours and interact with others.

I’m located in Perth, Western Australia, but I also work with clients internationally and often deliver PRINT sessions online. Leadership coaching can also be a useful way to embed the use of the PRINT profile for your leaders, which I can also assist with depending on your requirements.

About the PRINT® Assessment

The approach is used to enhance understanding of the way people react and how they relate by explaining the “why” behind their behaviour – why people act as they do, why they make certain choices, why they are attracted to certain things and why they function better in certain situations than others.

Everyone has core motivations that drive their actions and behaviours. PRINT® reveals what these motivators are and in doing so, clarifies what is needed to bring out people’s best. It helps unleash the potential that lies within all people. PRINT® is a valuable guide to create success and reveal what can be done to face and overcome one’s challenges. PRINT® builds insight into others, as well as one’s self.

There are 72 PRINTS®, each with their own core motivations and behaviours. No PRINT® is better than any other and each possesses its own natural gifts and contributions (Best Self) and its own potential barriers and obstacles (Shadow).

Every PRINT® exhibits Best Self and Shadow behaviour. The goal of the Why of you program is to teach people how to diminish the frequency of Shadow behaviour and increase the presence of Best Self.

Shadow is people’s automatic response to the stressors in their lives. It may be more automatic for some people to be in Best Self or Shadow than others. A person’s professional and personal environment plays a role, as well as their level of self-awareness. Studies have shown there is a positive correlation between Best Self and performance.

I am certified to use and analyse the Paul Hertz Group’s PRINT® Survey, a 10-15 minute, statistically validated, highly accurate, and dynamic online instrument as part of my coaching process (dynamic meaning that different questions come up based on how previous ones were answered, so people take different surveys).

The instrument helps me uncover an individual’s core motivators and the behaviours that reflect both their Best Self and their potential Shadow. This information helps me work in partnership with individuals to efficiently accomplish goals and generate strategies to yield desired results.

What Are the Steps In the PRINT Workshop Process?

The PRINT process is simple, and can be completed within a matter of weeks, depending on how long it takes for your participants to complete the survey.

What Is the PRINT Wheel?

The PRINT Wheel is an optional tool that can be included in a PRINT debrief workshop.

Sample PRINT WheelThe PRINT Wheel provides an aggregated view of the PRINT Profiles within a team, showing the proportion of the different PRINT Unconscious Motivators across the team.

There is no perfect PRINT Wheel for a team, and the idea is not to have an even distribution of PRINT motivators across team members.

The PRINT Wheel is calculated using an algorithm that takes into account the Major and Minor PRINT Unconscious Motivators for each team member, and also includes a weighting factor for the PRINT Profile of the team leader who often has a greater influence over how the team runs.

The PRINT Wheel is an excellent way to understand:

  • The dominant Unconscious Motivators in a team, and how these may be a strength or a challenge for the team in different situations
  • Any Unconscious Motivators that are absent or only present to a small degree, and how this could present a challenge to the team.

The PRINT Wheel is also a great way to develop strategies to prevent the team being dominated by a few Unconscious Motivators, which can help to improve outcomes of the team working together.

PRINT 360: Best Self Survey

The PRINT 360 Best Self Survey is a 360 assessment that helps leaders gain self-awareness and identify strengths and areas for improvement, based directly on their PRINT profile.

The Best Self Survey is administered in a similar way to other 360 assessments, with surveys typically sent to the leader’s:

  • Direct manager and other senior leaders
  • Colleagues; and
  • Direct reports.

The real difference of this 360 assessment is that the survey questions are directly related to the Best Self and Shadow behaviours within the leader’s PRINT profile.

This means the leader can get an understanding of their interactions with others, particularly when they are being perceived to be in Best Self, or in Shadow mode.

Once the survey is complete, I meet with the leader for several coaching sessions to work through the results and develop actions to help them make improvements in any focus areas that are evident from the survey results.

The Best Self Survey can be a great way to keep PRINT at the front-of-mind of key leaders, and help them to maximise Best Self, while minimising their potential Shadow behaviour.
