Part 1: Foundations & Understanding Self.

Our workplaces can be tough and nobody will look after our own confidence. That’s why it’s so important to understand ourselves and how we think, feel and react to different situations.

In this part of the course, we look at the foundations of self-confidence and why it’s so critical. We look at your own experiences with self-confidence and the factors in your environment that may be making you feel insecure and uncertain.

In leadership it’s common to face uncertainty and situations that will have you doubting yourself. We need to keep ourselves positive and cut down on the negative chatter that we often hear in our own head.

In this part of the course, we focus on building your greatest tool and your biggest ally – your own mindset.

We look at self-talk, negativity, self-awareness and how to use self-doubt and worry to your advantage. We also look at how to stay calm at work and to understand and limit our insecurities.

Last, but not least, we cover how to venture out of your comfort zone… safely, and how it can lead to big results.

2.0: Introduction: A quick walkthrough of the module and the lessons within.

2.1: Self-Talk and Negativity: How negative self-talk can impact your leadership, and some simple ways to combat the bad thoughts.

2.2: Improve Your Emotional Intelligence to Grow Your Confidence: How your Emotional Intelligence and self-awareness affects your confidence and how you can improve them.

2.3: Worrying & Self-Doubt: All leaders worry, and that’s OK. But we need to stop your worries and self-doubts damaging your confidence and your leadership. This lesson will help you do this.

Do I Need to Sign a Coaching Contract?2021-01-26T07:00:36+08:00

If you choose the Coaching Program option, then I will provide a coaching contract for you to sign. In summary, the coaching contract contains:

  • The details of the coaching period and how often we will meet
  • Confidentiality provisions about how I will deal with information provided during the sessions
  • The price of the coaching as well as payment terms
  • The policy to reschedule or cancel coaching sessions
  • Ownership of any intellectual property generated; and
  • Details of the legal jurisdiction that would govern any disputes or claims.

I use the coaching contract in all of my coaching engagements, so that you understand the agreement and there are no surprises. I have never had any issues with clients where there has been a dispute, but the contract exists in the very rare case that this might occur.

The contract is nothing to be nervous about – it simply describes the basics of our agreement so that we can get on with the real work – which is to help you achieve your goals and overcome your challenges.

How Does the Coaching Package Option Work?2021-01-24T11:18:21+08:00

If you’ve chosen the coaching package, you’ll also receive 4 x 1-hour individual coaching sessions which aim to help you improve your leadership confidence when combined with the online lessons.

When you enrol, I will work with you to determine the best time to complete the sessions. I find that one coaching session every 2 weeks works well – especially when you are completing the online course modules in between.

These sessions most often focus on removing barriers and overcoming challenges that reduce your confidence – which could include many different aspects of leadership.

For example, we might discuss topics like team motivation or time management – it really depends on your situation and the best way to help you build confidence and remove barriers.

At the end of the coaching sessions, it’s common for us to develop actions that you’ll undertake to move forward and improve. We’ll also keep in touch until the next coaching session so I can check on the progress of your actions (the accountability factor – which is very important!) and you can ask any questions.

Scheduling the Coaching Sessions

I live in Australia, so I might be in a different timezone than you. However, I have successfully coached clients from many different countries and this has never been a problem.

I use an online booking system which allows you to select multiple appointment options, so we can schedule times that will suit both of us. The online system is very easy to use and always makes it easier to align our busy calendars!

I often perform coaching sessions outside of my normal business hours, so I’m sure I will be able to accommodate your schedule.

What You Need for the Online Coaching

The individual sessions will be held using Zoom, which is an online video conferencing platform.

You don’t need any special software (it is accessed through a website), but you will need access to a computer / laptop / tablet with an internet connection, camera and microphone or headphones. The best place to do the coaching is somewhere quiet, where you won’t be interrupted.

It’s up to you whether we use video or just audio for the coaching – some people prefer audio-only while others like the face-to-face aspect of using video. Both methods are effective, so I leave the choice up to you.

Note: If we have complications with the Zoom service, my backup is to use Skype.

The course is hosted on Teachable, a secure online learning platform. You’ll be given access as soon as you enrol.

Using this platform, you’ll be able to access everything you need to complete the exercises and you can also leave comments and ask questions along the way.

Teachable saves your progress as you go, and you can go at your own pace. I recommend completing a module every 1 or 2 week so you have time to work on the exercises as you go.

I recommend spending a few hours per week, and trying to complete one module each week.

Some of the exercises in the course involve bringing the course material into your day to day working life and trying things out, so these can take longer. If you’ve selected the coaching option, these exercises also help you prepare for the upcoming coaching sessions and provide me with valuable input to help me understand your situation.

The exercises also involve some self-reflection, which I feel is a very important part of building confidence. So slow down, take your time and don’t rush!

Isn’t confidence different for everyone? How do you cater for this?2020-06-21T17:23:38+08:00

Great question! Yes, people feel a lack of confidence for many reasons – there really is no “one size fits all” solution for building confidence.

However, this course starts by setting a foundation for building confidence. The first two modules focus on understanding confidence and doing a self-assessment of where you’re at – and the third module gives you specific tools for working through common leadership situations, such as handling difficult conversations, for example.

If you have selected the coaching package, you’ll set the foundational knowledge using the online course and then target your specific issues in the coaching sessions.

Can this Course really improve my confidence?2020-11-28T08:00:00+08:00

Obviously, improving confidence takes time and repetition. That is, trying new things, failing and succeeding. Some people grow in confidence faster than others.

One thing to keep in mind is that you will almost *never* feel completely confident. Leadership is tough and even the very greatest leaders will experience uncertainty and doubt. The difference is that these leaders still take action. They don’t wait to feel completely confident – they take action and feel more confident on the other side.

The objective of this course is to help you take action, which will gradually help you to improve your confidence over time. We aren’t aiming for 100% confidence, which doesn’t really exist. Instead, we are looking to help you feel confident enough to take the actions you need to take.
